Not Scared?

I’m not scared enough.  At least I don’t think I am…

Matthew 7:21-23 – “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  On that day many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’  And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me your workers of lawlessness.’”

Now of course my first reaction when I read these verses, or read about the sheep and the goats is that I won’t be one of those unfortunate souls that are cast off into the lake of fire, unable to enter the Kingdom of Heaven with a declaration from Jesus that he never knew me, but that is exactly the reaction of the people in Matthew 7.

And these weren’t ‘ordinary’ people.  These were dudes (or dudettes) who were prophesying, casting out demons and doing mighty works.  And they were doing these works in His name!

And these people were not just cast out of Heaven.  They weren’t just asked to leave and called workers of lawlessness, they had the guy whose name they did miraculous things in tell them that he never knew them.

Ouch.

So as I sit here I wonder what sets me apart from these dudes and why am I going to be able to enter the Kingdom as opposed to the workers of lawlessness in these verses?

Better yet…what sets you apart?
